The Talnakh concentrator near Norilsk processes ore from one of the world's major nickel and copper deposits, and its process circuits depend on pumps that hold pressure and flow through long, uninterrupted campaigns. A high-pressure pumping duty in the plant needed new equipment, and the operator's requirements reflected the realities of Arctic mining: absolute reliability, minimal maintenance attention, and equipment that arrives correct, because resupply to Norilsk is measured in weeks, not days. YFTEL supplied an AS100-60 and ASH100-100 vertical high-pressure pump set for the service.
The Duty
Concentrator pumping is hard service even before the location is considered. Process fluids in a flotation plant carry fine mineral solids that abrade wetted surfaces, the circuits run continuously between scheduled shutdowns, and a high-pressure duty adds mechanical stress on every component in the casing and bearing train. In Norilsk, each of those difficulties is amplified: the Arctic climate restricts logistics for much of the year, spare parts cannot be ordered casually, and an unplanned pump failure idles capacity that cannot easily be recovered.
The Solution
The AS and ASH series are vertical high-pressure pumps built for exactly this combination of pressure demand and difficult service. The vertical configuration carries the hydraulic stages on a compact footprint, which simplifies installation inside an operating concentrator where floor space is allocated years in advance, and it places the drive motor above the wet end, clear of the process fluid and any leakage path. Supplied as a matched pump set, the AS100-60 and ASH100-100 units give the plant the pressure and flow the circuit requires with the redundancy discipline that remote operations depend on: pumps that share the duty, share the wear, and give maintenance a window instead of an emergency.
Why Vertical High-Pressure Pumps Fit Concentrator Service
For high-pressure duties in mineral processing, the vertical layout earns its place on three grounds. The footprint is small, which matters in dense process buildings. The stacked hydraulic design builds pressure efficiently across stages rather than forcing a single stage to carry the whole head. And the above-fluid drive arrangement keeps motors and couplings accessible at floor level, where the plant's own crew can inspect and service them without draining anything. On a remote site, that accessibility is a reliability feature in itself.
The Result
The pump set was installed, commissioned, and put into the concentrator's process service. The units run their duty on the plant's maintenance calendar, with inspections aligned to scheduled shutdowns rather than forced by failures.
