A fine chemical producer in Weifang, Shandong Province, needed to transfer corrosive liquid out of a below-grade collection tank. The pump position was fixed above the liquid level, the fluid was aggressive enough to rule out ordinary metal construction, and the plant wanted a solution its operators could start without a priming routine before every batch. The duty called for a self-priming pump built for chemistry.
The Duty
The service had three defining conditions. First, suction lift: the pump sits above the tank and must pull liquid up to itself, which a standard end-suction pump cannot do reliably without a foot valve and a priming procedure. Second, corrosion: the transferred liquid attacks unprotected metal, so the entire wetted path needed chemical resistance. Third, batch operation: the line starts and stops with production batches rather than running continuously, so every restart is a potential re-priming event.
The Solution
YFTEL supplied a 65FZB-30L fluoroplastic self-priming pump from its centrifugal pump range. The FZB series combines the two capabilities this duty required: a self-priming hydraulic design that evacuates the suction line and lifts liquid to the pump without a foot valve, and a fully fluoroplastic-lined wetted path that holds corrosive chemicals across a wide range of acids, alkalis, and process liquids. The pump mounts at floor level above the tank, in the open, where operators can reach it directly for inspection, with no submerged equipment in the corrosive fluid at all.
Why Self-Priming Fit This Installation
For tank-emptying and below-grade transfer on corrosive service, the self-priming layout removes the two weakest points of the alternatives. Unlike a submerged or vertical sump pump, nothing wets except the suction pipe and the lined internals, so there is no submerged bearing or shaft seal sitting in the chemistry between batches. Unlike a conventional pump with a foot valve, there is no valve at the tank bottom to foul, leak, and turn every start into a re-priming job. On a batch schedule, that simplicity compounds: every batch starts the same way, with the pump pulling its own suction line down and going to work.
The Result
The pump was installed above the tank, piped, and commissioned into the batch transfer routine. Starts are now a switch operation rather than a priming procedure, and the lined wetted path has held the chemistry without the corrosion failures the plant had experienced on metal equipment.
YFTEL supplies FZB self-priming pumps for corrosive liquid transfer where the pump must sit above the liquid. Send us your fluid, suction lift, and duty point, and our engineers will confirm the model.
